Cult Farnworth pizza spot Twelve teases long-awaited return

Back in October 2022, a very short Facebook post by my favourite pizza spot deeply upset me. Twelve’s 46-word statement simply read: “We are heartbroken to announce this is the last weekend of Twelve – book your slot, there’s not many pizza’s left but you know they’re going to be great! We love you all and thank you very much for a wonderful 28 months. Always yours, Twelve Family.”

Since opening in mid-2020, in the heart of lockdown, the ‘hole in the wall’ takeaway had built up a cult following for its delicious wood-fired pizzas, as well as its homemade garlic dips.

As well as serving up the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted, there was the added bonus of the Highfield Road venue only being a five-minute walk from my house.

Even though I’ve visited Italy and restaurants such as Rudy’s and Pizza Punks for the first time in the years since Twelve’s closed, it still remains undefeated in my pizza rankings.

Sadly, I’d become so resigned to the fact that it was never going to make a comeback that I finally binned my loyalty card last month, when I got a new wallet for my birthday.

So you can imagine my surprise and excitement when a much longer post popped up on my Facebook feed earlier this week.

The post teased a return for Twelve in the form of a double decker bus. It also stated that the planned return will be partly crowdfunding – with paid membership packages being offered, including perks such as free garlic dips and fresh orange juice with every order, discounts, and the opportunity to dine on the top deck of the bus.

Exactly where the bus will end up remains a mystery, although owner Pawel suggested in the comments that it will still be in Farnworth – perhaps the Farnworth Green development would be a great spot for it?

Either way, I hope it manages to get enough funding to reopen because the pizzas have been very sorely missed and even for people living outside Farnworth, I really do think that the pizzas are worth travelling for. I’ll definitely be putting my £15 into the pot.

Would you consider paying a membership fee to get one of your favourite restaurants back open? Let me know in the comments.
