Exclusive: Earl’s pulls out of Farnworth Green

Popular ‘day and night deli’ Earl’s is the latest business to U-turn on moving into a unit at Capital&Centric’s Farnworth Green development.

Capital&Centric originally announced that the cult favourite – known for its stacked sandwiches, quality coffee and laid-back vibe – would be moving into one of the development’s several vacancy units back in March

Just six months later, Capital&Centric has confirmed that Earl’s are ‘no longer proceeding’ with their plans to open a second site in Farnworth, following the success of their original Chorley Old Road site.

In October 2025, after plans to open artisan bakery Cotton were shelved, a Capital&Centric spokesperson stated that there was “strong interest in the remaining retail units”.

But just 11 months on, the only two retail units operating at the development are still café chain The Coffee House and Pilates studio Bilatiis.

Concerns are growing locally that Capital&Centric are struggling to attract the kind of businesses they promised, when Farnworth Green opened 18 months ago.

But the development firm have said they will not bow to pressure, reiterating their desire to “improve the high street”

A spokesperson for Capital&Centric said: “Earl’s are no longer proceeding, so we are considering other options, and we would like to wish Earl’s all the best with their future expansion plans.

“We’re talking to some exciting new operators for Farnworth, and no matter how much pressure we get, we simply will not rent it to bookies, vape shops or any other business that doesn’t improve the high street.”

If you look at how Bolton and Farnworth look now then compare how Radcliffe and Bury have and continue to be improved it is like night and day. I can only think Bury council have developed the high street for the local people with their views in mind. I don’t know of anyone who supports the utter chaos in Farnworth, and the planners need replacing or a visit to Bury and Radcliffe. I am a Stoneclough resident therefore my council tax goes to Bolton. I am no longer proud of Farnworth & Bolton as I once was and Farnworth Green is another example of failure to realise what we needed on our high street which has been utterly destroyed. May I suggest before doing anything else you ask the residents for ideas?
