Exclusive: Cotton Farnworth Green update issued as unit remains empty

Plans to open café and bakery Cotton in one of the vacant units at Farnworth Green have been shelved, Molloy’s Musings understands.

A huge ‘coming soon’ sign appeared on the front of the unit opposite Greenhalgh’s shortly after Capital&Centric’s development opened at the start of the year.

Back in July, Capital&Centric set a September opening date for the popular Manchester independent, which is renowned for its artisan sandwiches and organic coffee.

But months later, Cotton is yet to move into the building.

It did, in fact, not come soon

A spokesman for Capital&Centric has now confirmed that the Cotton team are instead opening a ‘kiosk’ in November, which will serve ‘coffee, sandwiches and sweet treats’.

Molloy’s Musings has asked Captial&Centric for the reasons behind this change and whether there are any plans in the future for Cotton to still move into the vacant retail unit.

There have been concerns locally that nine months on from Farnworth Green opening, there are currently only two businesses operating at the development – café chain The Coffee House and Pilates studio Bilatiis

Capital&Centric have been asked why this is the case and whether this is a concern to them.

A spokesman commented: “Regarding the wider Farnworth Green site, there is continued strong interest in the remaining retail units, with further announcements expected soon as lettings progress.”
